NEED ADDITIONAL TRAILER SECURITY?...
Author: Jan Knott
After having my Rice Beaufort 3 horse trailer stolen some years ago, my husband devised a method of providing some additional security for parked trailers. It involved welding some chain behind the wheels, and making a T shaped piece of metal with a small hole at the bottom of the T, which will go through the spokes of the wheel. The top of the T prevents the whole thing going right through the wheel. A padlock is then put through the hole in the T-metal and the chain, behind the wheel. Remember you must do both wheels on one side, or the trailer can be 'lifted' to run on the one axle only. I've got all of my wheels done, so I have the choice of which side to lock, depending on where the trailer is parked. On trips to the beach or any venue where the trailer will be left, I always lock it by the wheel locks as well as padlocking the towing hitch. An 'opportunity thief' might be able to break the towing hitch padlock, but the wheel locks foil them, they don't realise they are there for a start! Having forgotten to remove them before trying to drive off, I can vouch for their efficiency - the trailer goes nowhere! I don't particularly want to be inundated with e-mails about this, but if people are interested I can draw diagrams and make them available to Horsewatch, who can distribute them.
LOST - HORSE
My horse went on loan with view to buy to Sue Cassidy of Malton, North Yorkhsire. To cut a long story short, she let him go to a lady who I don't know. I did not give permission and now I cannot find him! Please help. Photos available. Trigger is a 16hh Clydsdale, 8 years old. Chestnut with white legs, white splashes on belly and white legs. He has a flaxen mane and tail and is prone to sweet itch. Tel. 01422 379007 Thanks!!! Debra Beeby
